We have now proven truffles grow well in this area, are financially viable and we have an export market. I am keen to help others interested in growing truffles to find out, make an informed decision and start.
I have organised for experts from Victoria to come and run a workshop in Cobargo on Saturday 22 February. They ran a workshop for about 50 people here when we started back in 2012 and it was fantastic, worth the investment if you want to look at growing truffles. I have attached information. If you are interested please contact Colin to arrange.
From our experience, you need:
* Frosts (land that does not have frosts is not suitable)
* North facing slopes for sun
* No trees within 40m or on the land you are using for 20 years (this is because of the competing mycorrhiza in the soil)
* Water (to establish the trees and to keep things alive in droughts)
You will need to add a lot of lime.
Give me a call if you would like to discuss.
