Council at their last Meeting on 12 May 2021 adopted Scenario 2 - Improvement Model contained in the Long Term Financial Plan (LTFP) 2022-2031, which projects consideration by Council of a Special Rate Variation commencing in the 2024 Financial Year.

The community should be aware that Council, in adopting this LTFP, has agreed to a Special Rate Variation of 5% per year for 5 years from 2023 to support Council remaining financially sustainable. This LTFP is a substantial document, being 28 pages of financial analysis and tables, included as Item 13.1, Attachment 3 to the 12 May 2021 Meeting Agenda papers (https://facebook.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9030b531e962ad02c68a923c8&id=e68a62f6d3&e=34e977e1dc) .

Whilst Council has circulated its Operational Plan for 2021-2022 for community comment (https://facebook.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9030b531e962ad02c68a923c8&id=3da2de0609&e=34e977e1dc) , community comment has not been requested on the LTFP and this Special Rate Variation.

Our advice from a Council representative in this regard is that following the election of a new Council after the Local Government elections in September this year, the LTFP will be reconsidered by Council and likely be open for community consultation. It is hoped this is the case, given the significance of the Special Rate Variations proposed when Bega Valley Shire council rates are already very high relative to many other councils.
