Hi Community
Are you a budding gardener? Are you an experienced grower? Do you like green beans? Would you like to grow a rare vegetable variety? If you answered yes to any of these then why not join us in a fantastic local initiative.
You'll be growing with lots of other folk in the neighbourhood, you'll learn (and eat!) heaps, and the seeds are free! Pick up from any library in the Bega Valley from next week - even in Bermi, despite their current renos!

Hello seed savers and friends,
Starting next week, the Bega Valley Seed Savers have teamed up with the Bega Valley Shire Library on a mission to increase Cupidon bean seed numbers. This uncommon bean isn't available commercially and is hard to find. But it is a fantastic, stringless green bush bean with tender pods that have a delicious, sweet flavour, so it deserves to better known and grown. It is easy to grow, including in raised beds or pots, easy to plant and easy to harvest.
We're asking everyone to get involved. Plant one seed for each member of your household to eat and one for Seed Savers. If everyone lets all the beans on one plant mature fully to brown, crackly pods we'll have enough seeds to share with many other seed saving groups and libraries and hopefully the Cupidon bean will no longer be hard to find. Of course, you can plant more if you have the space!
The free seeds and a grow guide will be available at all the shire’s libraries - Bega, Bermagui, Eden and Tura - between Monday 23 October and Friday 10 November. Just pick up a packet and joining the growing. At the end of the season the seeds you've harvested can be returned to the libraries.
There will be a workshop and Q&A session at the Bega Library on Friday 27th October at 10.30 am. Come along and learn more about how to grow, eat and save seeds from the Cupidon beans and other vegetables. Register for the workshop at - https://begavalley.events.mylibrary.digital/event?id=23264
