*Bermagui CWA Social Housing*
Back in the early 1980s, Bermagui CWA built four ‘Aged Persons Independent
Living Units’ on their property in Corunna Street next to the CWA Rooms and
Seaside Cottage. These became known as the Sinclair Units, named for Mrs
Sinclair, who was the branch President at the time, and her well-known
husband, Sam Sinclair, who contributed funds to the build. Funding of
$60,000 was received from the Commonwealth Department of Social Security
and other locals contributed to the successful project in a variety of
ways.
All four units have been occupied by tenants for over forty years and when
one becomes available, a rare occurrence, the next tenant on the waiting
list moves in quick smart. They are managed and maintained by the CWA as
affordable social housing.
Thanks to another bequest some time ago from local woman, Florence
Froggett, and the proceeds from investments, Bermagui CWA has about 70% of
the funds needed to build two more units on the site.
We are thrilled to announce that Get Smart Builders are scheduled to start
onsite in the coming weeks. For more info call Cath on 0419 491 104
