<br>
<span style="font-size:14px"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica neue,helvetica,sans-serif">Transport for NSW representatives visited Bermagui on 1 December to meet with Rocky Lagana, Operations Manager at Fishermen's Wharf and community representatives to explain the process they will follow in dredging the Bermagui Harbour in the marina area. It is nearly 20 years since the harbour was last dredged. <br>
<br>
The objective is to dredge a maximum of 0.5 metres of sediment from the harbour floor to allow safe navigation for the fishing fleet and other vessels. Current clearance is not sufficient when entering and leaving the main central wharf. We were assured that sand and sediment from the harbour floor will be filtered to remove debris and contaminated material, and then pumped to the existing large sand pile to the north of the wharf area. The initial studies of the harbour floor do not indicate significant quantities of contaminated material. The most toxic area is near the slipway and this will not be disturbed.<br>
<br>
With the background of poor community consultation with the dredging of the river estuary and pumping of large quantities of sand and sludge onto Horseshoe Bay beach last year, Transport for NSW are following a more open communication process with the community in their planning for dredging the harbour.<br>
<br>
Transport for NSW representatives at this initial meeting were Adam Milgate, Manager Communications and Stakeholder Engagement, Brad Dudley, Manager Regional Harbours South and Gareth Doran, Project Manager. The community representatives were Lisa McCall Power and Geoff Steel, plus Rocky Lagana from the Fishermen's Wharf.<br>
<br>
It is expected that a full harbour dredging plan including a Review of Environment Factors will be circulated for community comment in the next few weeks. A new tender for the dredging work will then be offered, with work not expected to commence before April 2022. A Transport for NSW representative will be on site at least every 2 weeks to monitor progress.<br>
<br>
<strong>Continued Dredging of River Estuary</strong><br>
<br>
The dredging of the Bermagui River estuary between the river bridge and the harbour entrance is not yet complete. The dredging contract with Sandpiper Dredging has been cancelled. It is important that this work is completed to make greater use of the upgraded boat ramp at the river bridge. It is planned that this work will occur after the harbour dredging is complete.<br>
<br>
The dredged material in this case will be filtered and pumped to the back of Moorheads Beach, at least 50 metres from the ocean edge. <br>
<br>
<strong>Saltwater Building Demolition</strong><br>
<br>
We briefly also discussed the Saltwater building slated for demolition, and the future commercial opportunity of this Crown Lands site. Transport for NSW advised that they currently are not permitted to lease land or premises for periods beyond 5 years, and are not able to spend the funds necessary to bring the building up to standard. This currently makes<br>
any third party investment in a business at Saltwater uneconomic.<br>
<br>
<strong>Horseshoe Bay Beach Improvement</strong><br>
<br>
We then inspected the current state of the Horseshoe Bay Beach. Despite the sand sifting efforts to date, the beach still has not been returned to its previous pristine condition. Transport for NSW undertook to consider further sifting of debris from the beach, using more effective sifting equipment than has been used to date.<br>

<span style="font-size:14px"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica neue,helvetica,sans-serif">Council is seeking to expand the types of residential developments within the B2 commercial zones of the towns in the shire. The intention is to include dwelling housing, dual occupancy, multi dwelling housing and residential flat buildings as permitted uses within the B2 zone. Currently the only form of residential development permitted is shop top housing.<br>
<br>
In practical terms a commercial premise with a rear access lane way would be able to build a unit or block of flats at the rear of the premises. The 10 metre height limit would still apply.<br>
<br>
If you have just an existing residential dwelling in a B2 zone, you would need to set up a commercial premises for this proposal to apply.<br>
<br>
It would have been helpful for Council to include a map of all B2 town commercial zones in their proposal paper.<br>
<br>

This short section connects the harbour via Campbells Cove around the Apex Park all-abilities playground with a planned road crossing near the Country Club and will provide additional off-road infrastructure for pedestrians and bike riders.<br>

The Bike Plan, when fully implemented, will provide a safe and healthy alternative means of moving around the town for locals and visitors alike - young and old.</span></span><br>

Council is currently processing this request. This will essentially revert the approval to the previous version, i.e. 12 days of competition shooting days each year.</span></span>
