=================
Hi Everyone
It will cost only $25 to enter the creative mind of a *famous French exile*
(mainly from France) whose funeral attracted 2.5 million attendees in Paris
a while ago.
With knowledge of that kind of attendance - the AFL is considering
incorporating Literature into the code.
Meantime - it's a slow, careful drive (no pun) to find out.

PERFORMANCES
VICTOR EGO or
THE BRAINSTORM
*MURRAH HALL 7.00pm July 6, 7, 13, 14 3.00pm July 8, 15*
Victor Ego is a ‘one-man’ play, conceived, written and performed by Patrick
Dickson.
Hugo is at work in his studio as he pulls together the essential
ingredients of a ripping yarn which will become a best-selling novel. He
conjures up a cast of characters and spices their relationships with
betrayal, obsession, love, sacrifice and a dash of skullduggery. The
beautiful, rugged seascape of the Norman Archipelago isn’t simply a
back-drop; for Hugo it’s a powerful and unpredictable player in the drama
of life and death.
The play is both a distillation of a gothic romance and an exploration of
the imagination and alchemy of one of the greatest literary figures of the
nineteenth century.
This production can only happen with the creative support of O’Punksky’s
Theatre, a Sydney company Patrick has been associated with for nearly 30
years. The project also features the essential and welcome contribution of
local media artists.
Patrick Dickson is a well-known and well-respected Australian actor. He
played a pivotal character in the ABC’s famous *Seachange *series and is
extremely well known in the Sydney theatre circles. He also appeared in*
Janet King*,* Bridge Too Far*, *Home & Away* and *Rogue Nation*.

TALKING HEADS
by Alan Bennett
*Bay Theatre Players, BATEMANS BAY 20 - 29 July*
Written by British playwright Alan Bennett, author of many well-known works
including ‘Lady in the Van’, ‘The History Boys’ and ‘The Madness of George
III’, the ‘Talking Heads’ series of one-act plays were first produced for
BBC TV in the 1980s.
Amusing and witty, with a touch of pathos, the four monologues chosen by
director Jenny Kohlhagen for inclusion in the Bay Theatre Players Inc July
2018 production give us an insight into the mindset of four very different
women.
‘Soldiering On’ features Ursula ‘Nik’ Nixon, well known to our local
audiences from her many appearances on our stage, including in the
unforgettable ‘Shoehorn Sonata’. Nik’s character Muriel is recently widowed
and evolves to be a master of self-deception and moral blindness.
We encounter someone we all know in ‘A Cream Cracker Under the Settee’, as
Jenny Grinlinton, who we last saw on stage in the 2016 production of
‘Forget Me Not’, plays the elderly Doris. Doris is determined to remain in
her own home rather than be ‘put away in a nursing home’, but is
disillusioned with the home help that has been arranged to enable her to
manage at home.
Narrell Murdoch is Susan, the vicar’s wife in ‘Bed Among the Lentils’, a
woman with a lot to hide from her husband and his parishioners. Susan’s
tragic story is not without moments of hilarity! Narrell has performed in
many BTP productions, including roles in ‘Annie’ and ‘Minefields and
Miniskirts’ in recent years.
Recipient of multiple CATS nominations and awards for her theatre work,
Candy Burgess will entertain you as ‘A Lady of Letters’ - a woman who has
taken the concept of neighbourhood watch to the extreme. In this final
monologue, our ‘Lady of Letters’, Irene Ruddock will amuse and delight you
as she draws you into her world.

PLAY ON!
Written by Rick Abbot
*17 AUGUST - 1 SEPTEMBER COOMA LITTLE THEATRE*
The hilarious story of a theatre group trying desperately to put on a play
in spite of maddening interference from a haughty author who keeps revising
the script.
Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II is the near disastrous
dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance, in which
anything that can go wrong, does.
When the author decides to give a speech on the state of the modern theatre
during the curtain calls, the audience is treated to a madcap climax and a
thoroughly hilarious romp.
