Bega Valley Shire Council has voted and agreed to demolish Cuttagee Bridge. The community has asked Council to find a better solution. We consider it is essential to gather the town together on this issue. We want to hear your views.

We have previously suggested a possible alternative and affordable solution similar to the recent restoration of the Brunswick Heads wooden bridge. This could deliver a better economic, engineering and heritage value outcome for Cuttagee Bridge and better satisfy the concerns of both Council and the community.

New Speakers to Give Their Expert Views.

We have invited representatives from Timber Restoration Systems in Brisbane who worked on the Brunswick Heads wooden bridge restoration project (completed in March 2021) to speak at the community meeting. David Maggiolo and Andrew La Spina who were both involved in that project will be speakers.

The Mayor, Russell Fitzpatrick, Acting CEO Anthony McMahon, Dr Alice Howe and Councillor Cathy Griff will be representing Council at the meeting. This is an opportunity for Council to hear first hand the views of the Community on this issue and to explore a possible collaborative better solution for Cuttagee Bridge.

This is a Covid-safe event and spaces are limited to 100 seated attendees so book now (https://facebook.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9030b531e962ad02c68a923c8&id=1c21c8b12a&e=34e977e1dc) .

We will also live stream the meeting on our Facebook page (https://facebook.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9030b531e962ad02c68a923c8&id=b79545e9d1&e=34e977e1dc) to ensure that as many community members as possible are involved.

The format of the meeting will include an introduction from Council representatives on reasons for Cuttagee Bridge replacement, questions from the audience and up to 10 speakers with a 3 minute time limit. Sheena Boughen of Barragga Bay, co-founder and previous chair and CEO of Four Winds will facilitate the Meeting.

The real value of the coastal road and bridges is that it is part of a heritage trail. Along the coast of NSW this sequence of wooden bridges doesn’t exist anywhere else. Heritage tourism is a growth area. We have the asset, we just have to maintain it.

The community remains committed to restoring our one lane wooden bridge.
