There is a FREE loom available in Narooma - it is a 4 shaft table loom,
around 60cm weaving width (forgot my tape-measure). It is very sturdily
built from cast metal. I do not recognise it as a particular brand, but if
it is home-made, it is well made.
It was in an awkward position in storage so I haven’t taken photos, and I
couldn’t manage to do a complete appraisal, but from what I can see the
looms looks structurally sound; the lever mechanisms for the shafts work
well; and there is a very old warp on the loom with some weaving so it has
definitely worked at some stage.
Some parts are rusty and I am not sure whether they are salvageable or not.
But replacement parts for these are easily available to buy or they can be
borrowed from the Bega Valley Textile Group.
This looks like a good solid loom which needs a bit of TLC to get it up and
running again. But once you have done that, it looks as though it would be
a very useful loom.
If you think you might be interested in learning to weave, this loom would
probably be a cheap way to get started. The Bega Valley Textile Group holds
weaving classes every now and then, or you can come to the group and get
help there.
