You may have noticed that the retaining wall at the Blue Pool is missing a piece more than a metre long. This damage was caused by the East Coast Low event in August. At the height of the storm there were significant wave impacts as seen in this photo:
The damage to the wall can be seen in this photo. The missing piece of wall is at the bottom of the pool.
Bermagui Community Forum was advised by John Brady, Manager Leisure and Recreation at the BVSC a few weeks ago that a quotation for repair by a contractor had been received and that the repair is likely to be undertaken before the end of 2021.
The Cuttagee Bridge Community Advisory Group established by Bega Valley Shire Council held its first meeting on Monday 1 November, as detailed in this BVSC media release (https://facebook.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9030b531e962ad02c68a923c8&id=4ea3919090&e=34e977e1dc) .
The key role of the Group is to provide advice to Council on how to capture the heritage aspects of the bridge in any future construction or restoration project at the site.
Geoff Steel, coordinator of Bermagui Community Forum, is a member of the Advisory Group. The first meeting was largely introductory and information sharing. A number of related technical reports are available on Council’s website: search BVSC Cuttagee Bridge Renewal.
The second meeting of the Group is likely to be held in mid December.
There is increasing concern in the community at the Country Club’s current decision to locate a 26 metre high Optus Tower just next to the Club building in the middle of town. The concern is that the visual impact will be detrimental to the image of the town.
The Club has just issued a newsletter which indicates that they are again seriously addressing possible alternative sites for the Tower on Club land. This opens the possibility of locating the Tower further back on the golf course on higher ground.
The Club newsletter advises:
“We recently held two member’s information sessions where we updated those in attendance on some of the challenges the club faces, along with some of the plans the board has for the future. Unsurprisingly, one of the main areas of discussion was around the proposed telecommunications tower. After hearing all of the feedback we committed to engage further with Optus on that matter and as promised we have done so. Firstly, Optus have committed to hold community information sessions on the proposed development in January, which will be in advance of the decision on the DA. Secondly they have also agreed to review, for the third time, possible alternative sites on club land.”
It is pleasing to note that community information sessions are planned in January. If you have views on this issue it is recommended that you try to attend these planned information sessions and write to Council on the DA application (https://facebook.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9030b531e962ad02c68a923c8&id=f654a551da&e=34e977e1dc) lodged on 20 October.
Our current understanding is that there is no technical reason why the telecommunications tower could not be located on an alternate site on Club land.
It is pleasing to see progress with Council's construction of a new section of shared pathway around perimeter of new all-abilities playground at Apex Park. The pathway is expected to be completed in about two weeks.
