*All About Women satellite program – 4 March Bega *

South East Arts is partnering with the Bega Valley Shire Council (BVSC) to
bring live sessions from the Sydney Opera House's talks and ideas festival *All
About Women* celebrating International Women's Day. On Sunday 4 March at
the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre, the *All About Women Satellite
Program* invites you to reflect on the past and imagine the future of
feminism.

Anyone can attend this free event from 1.00 to 4.30pm at the Civic Centre
to see two headline sessions direct from the Sydney Opera House – Grabbing
Back: Women in the age of Trump and #MeToo: the making of a movement. There
will also be a local panel discussion featuring women in the arts,
facilitated by arts advisor and advocate Helen O’Neil. The panel includes
Corinne Gibbons - musician, composer and music teacher, Lisa Herbert – arts
project manager and promoter and Avi Amesbury, ceramic artist and arts
administrator.

To conclude the program, BVSC will be awarding 5 scholarships to local
young women. The Bega Valley’s International Women’s Day Young Women’s
Scholarship is offered to encourage young women to reach for their goals,
whatever they may be – economic, social or arts. You can hear about the
plans of these young women, and help celebrate and support their journeys.

GRABBING BACK: WOMEN IN THE AGE OF TRUMP

Panel | Fran Lebowitz, Sophia Nelson and Francesca Donner

‘I think putting a wife to work is a dangerous thing,’ Trump said in a 1994
interview. Since entering office, Trump’s administration has eroded the
rights of women by worsening conditions for female-dominated, low-income
industries and legislating against reproductive rights. Communities of
colour have similarly been targeted by proposed immigration laws, education
policies, and more. But resistance is springing up. Nasty women are
uniting. Trump has inspired conversations, marches, and many, many memes.
In fact, he has delivered women a new challenge: how do we respond to the
new world order?

#METOO: THE MAKING OF A MOVEMENT

Panel |Tarana Burke and Tracey Spicer

Tarana Burke is one of Time Magazine's People of the Year. She also founded
Me Too movement in 2007 when she began a campaign to amplify the voices of
victims of sexual harassment. Building on her work, actress Alyssa Milano
began the hashtag #metoo in October 2017, sparking 12 million posts and
reactions in the first 24 hours from women worldwide. Similarly, veteran
Australian journalist Tracey Spicer is currently investigating sexual abuse
and harassment in the media. Together, these two fierce and furious women
will explore how a mass movement is built, and question what the
consequences of calling out abusers might be.
